Partnership: Everything that we do at Stark is focused on excellence, by involving the client from the start of the process to the end, maintaining our relationships with interior designers and absolute focus upon their needs, we can create the ideal partnership.
Consistency: We’re fully committed to the interior design community and we’ll always protect the way in which we do business: which is exclusively to our trade-only partners. We’ll also recommend designers when approached by retail clients who are seeking certain products, and protect the interests of designers by never selling goods directly to the end consumer.
Our story begins and a philosophy is born
Our history begins with Arthur Stark who counted a number of Wall Street leaders amongst his earliest clientele; for each project, Arthur would bring the finest quality of product – a philosophy upon which the Stark brand began, and a foundation that still stands strong today.
Stark Carpet Enterprise was officially launched in 1938, with Arthur working alongside his wife Nadia. Together they were the first pioneers of patterned, luxury, handmade carpet within America – importing carpets that boasted qualities that had previously not been experienced within the US market. Over the first fledgling years the Starks worked tirelessly to discover manufacturers who could match up to their expectations of quality.
A journey into Europe
The sharp eye that Nadia & Arthur had for their product lines led them across the Atlantic to establish a foothold within the European markets, where the company would bring about wide-scale changes within the industry – changes that are still considered revolutionary to this day such as importing designs from Europe in narrow widths, and learning how to produce them on wide width looms, now known as broadloom carpet.
An empire that prospered and a client list that became ever more illustrious
The Stark brand experienced unprecedented growth over the coming years, culminating in a long list of impressive clients, where projects included the outfitting of the White House in the 60s and which went on to include the creation of the world’s first custom-made floor coverings in the 70s.
Such a legacy could rightly be considered an imposing challenge to continue, yet this legacy prospered further within the steady hands of Arthur and Nadia’s sons, Steven and John Stark.
Under their direction the Stark brand continued to innovate, harnessing ever more advanced techniques - ultimately resulting in the business not only establishing 25 carpet and fabric showrooms, but also to becoming recognised as a luxury brand upon a global stage.
Today: A business defined by a family legacy
Stark is today directed by third generation owners Chad and Ashley Stark. Alongside their fathers the business continues to excel within the 21st century – with an approach that pays homage to the company’s creators, Arthur and Nadia. The founding principles that first led the forefathers of Stark onto global recognition, are as apparent today as they ever were, and together the Stark brand promises much for the next 75 years.
