Updating a room can truly be a transformative experience. In the case of this New York dining room, designed by Home By Jody, the change was a complete 180. To Jody’s clients, the very traditional room felt a lot older than they themselves are. They were open to experimenting with color, but were a bit nervous when she proposed mixing teal, navy, and hot pink.
“My mother taught me a million years ago that you start from the rug and you work up,” Jody said. “I bring that with me to all my jobs and clients, for the most part. I prefer it. For this project, I came to STARK because I knew that’s where I wanted to go for a custom rug.”
“The concept was that the whole room would come together with the rug.”
To find the perfect rug, Jody stopped by the showroom in the D&D Building in New York. She saw a rug with the splattered dots, which to her had the feeling of a real piece of art. In fact, that’s what the client herself said when she brought the rug in!
“This is not a rug. This is a piece of art.”
The rug from the showroom isn’t exactly the rug that ended up in the dining room, however, as Jody knew she wanted to customize the colors. The original rug had some orange to it, but not quite the right orange. She also knew that she wanted to bring in vibrant purples, blues, and pinks, the latter of which brings a really fun pop to the room that Jody loves. The rug was a perfect way to marry all the things in the room, from the teal walls to the pink ottomans to the navy chairs with the hot pink piping.
For Jody, the most important thing is the client’s reaction – and these clients are thrilled with their new dining room.
“They told me that every single person who walks through the house absolutely loves it,” Jody stated.
Her experience working with STARK was equally positive. “Hannah Duane and Lee Post were fantastic,” Jody said. She couldn’t have found them to be more professional. The timing of the custom rug, in particular, was especially important to her – and they took her very seriously. “When we give you a date, we mean the date,” they said – and they did! Hannah even went out of her way to come down to the street with samples when Jody just couldn’t find parking around the D&D Building.
This rug is so unique that Jody has even kept a sample of it in the foyer of her own home for inspiration when she walks in and out. “Just leaving the little piece of the rug in my foyer, the response I’ve gotten from people is really out of this world,” she added.
